FDA Axes Lead Acetate in Hair Coloring Products

Ingredient no longer meets agency’s safety standard.

The US Food and Drug Administration today took action to remove lead acetate in hair coloring products given potential safety concerns about lead exposure from these products. The agency issued a final rule in response to a color additive petition that repeals the regulation that allows for the use of lead acetate as a color additive in these products.
